OSCAR’S FAMILY EXPERIENCE SENSE OF RELIEF AFTER BAIL IS GRANTED
SOUTH AFRICA, PRETORIA, FEBRUARY 23, 2013
Oscar Pistorius’ family and friends experienced a sense of immense relief at hearing that Oscar had been granted bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court late on Friday afternoon.
“This constitutes a moment of relief under these otherwise very grave circumstances” said Arnold Pistorius, the athlete’s uncle and spokesperson for the Pistorius family.
“We are extremely thankful that Oscar is now home,” Arnold Pistorius said.
The Pistorius family never imagined they would ever have to deal with such tragic events in their lives he said.
“What happened has changed our lives irrevocably.”
From the moment the family were first informed about the accident in the early hours of 14 February 2013, the Pistorius family had to come to terms with the sad reality of Reeva Steenkamp’s death and Oscar’s part in it.
“As a family it drew us closer together, supporting and encouraging each other, praying for Oscar – whom we love and who remains our son, brother and nephew. We have all been deeply affected by what transpired” said Arnold Pistorius.
“We are acutely aware of the fact that this is only the beginning of a long road to prove that, as we know, Oscar never intended to harm Reeva, let alone cause her death.”
Arnold Pistorius says Oscar will never be the same, having lost his love, and at the same time having to live with the knowledge that he caused the death of the woman he loved, and that he can never undo the immense pain and loss this has caused Reeva’s family and friends, nothing can ever bring her back.
“We realise that the law must run its course, and we would not have it any other way,” Arnold Pistorius said.
